It is important to decolonize our way of carrying out field research in regional areas. This workshop is developed at the intersections of research strategies and techniques used in the disciplines of art and social sciences in order to use these together for effective outcomes. It not only highlights methodologies but also puts forth the basics of semiotics in terms of deconstructing images, conversations and local practices, with the aim of constructing and deconstructing knowledge ‘with’ the locals rather than ‘for’ the locals. Emphasis will be laid on ethics of participation and role of the researcher, which must ultimately be exercised by LVS participants throughout their time at the Visiting School.
